Futurizing Fanon: Afrofuturism 2.0 and the Reimagining of African Futures

Dakar, Senegal | September 12–15, 2025 (Hybrid Conference: In-Person & Online)

Conference Theme

In 2025, scholars, artists, activists, and technologists will gather in Dakar—a historic nexus of Pan-African thought and creativity—to explore the intersections of Frantz Fanon’s revolutionary theories and Afrofuturism 2.0. Futurizing Fanon invites participants to reimagine Fanon’s critiques of colonialism, race, and identity through the prism of speculative futures, digital innovation, and cultural resilience. How can Afrofuturism 2.0, as an evolved movement, amplify Fanon’s vision of liberation in an era of climate crises, AI, and global Black solidarity? This hybrid conference seeks to bridge past, present, and future, centering African and diasporic voices in shaping tomorrow’s worlds.

We welcome interdisciplinary submissions that engage, but are not limited to, the following themes:

Fanon Reimagined: His theories in the digital age, neuro-decolonization, and psychic liberation.
